Program Description

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and Bacardi Gold have partnered to provide financial resources to an outstanding female Latino student.  The award is in the amount of $15,000 and is disbursed in two payments in Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.

The WNBA'S INSPIRING WOMEN platform celebrates women who inspire, motivate, and help ignite the dreams and aspirations of women in all endeavors.  The 6th Annual National Award Luncheon will take place on May 24, 2011 in New York City, bringing together leaders in business, media, sports, the arts and public sector, for a special program to honor the achievements of extraordinary individuals.  Past honorees have included award-winning journalist Cokie Roberts, ABC News' Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, and former Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice and Madeleine Albright.  Additional events associated with this year's Inspiring Women program include initiatives such as WNBA FIT and other community relations events. 

Eligibility Requirements 

• Be of Hispanic heritage
• Must be a female student
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application submission
• Be a U.S. Citizen or a legal permanent resident with permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired)
• Be enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program at a U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam during the 2011-2012 academic year
• Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
• Must have a permanent address in one of the following states:
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Connecticut
• Must demonstrate Leadership qualities and service experience
• Must attend the WNBA "Inspiring Women Luncheon" on May 24, 2011 in New York City to receive the award
• Must apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
