Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Honda Partner to Support College-Bound Students

SAN FRANCISCO (April 12, 2011) – The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) announced today that it will provide $50,000 in new scholarships for eight college-bound Latino students during the 2011-2012 academic year, based on a gift from American Honda Motor Company, Inc.

HSF works to address the barriers that keep many Latinos from earning a college degree, and the scholarships funded by Honda mark the latest step in a relationship that began in 2003.

“So many of the students we fund are the first in their families to go to college, and this scholarship support from Honda will go a long way to helping them clear the financial hurdles they face on their way to a college degree,” said Hispanic Scholarship Fund President and CEO Frank Alvarez. “We are very grateful for Honda’s investment in these students, and their continued support for our efforts.”

In addition to the scholarships, Honda has committed to providing internship opportunities for HSF students in several of the company’s business divisions, beginning later this year.

“We’re proud to continue our partnership with HSF and to have the opportunity to assist talented Latino students as they seek to fulfill their dreams,” said Marc Burt, Senior Manager of Honda’s Office of Inclusion and Diversity and a member of HSF’s Southern California Advisory Board.
