The ACT Assessment
What is it?
The ACT Assessment is a national college admission examination that consists of tests in:
- Science Reasoning
- **Writing Section on "The ACT Assessment Plus Writing"
The ACT includes 215 multiple-choice questions and takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete with breaks. Actual testing time is 2 hours and 55 minutes (or approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes if you are taking the Writing Test). The composite score ranges from 1-36, and the average being around 20.
The ACT Assessment tests are curriculum based. The questions on the ACT are directly related to what you have learned in your high school courses in English, Mathematics, and Science.
The ACT Assessment Plus Writing has a 30 minute writing section. It is an optional section as not all universities require it. You should figure out if you need to take a writing test before you register; you don't want to take more tests than are required for your college applications.
