Finding Scholarships for Hispanics
There are many private organizations providing scholarship opportunities for Hispanics and other minorities. These scholarships are in addition to the scholarships open to all students. In addition, individual schools often create partnerships with corporate sponsors and foundations to sponsor minority students with greater opportunities.
For parents and college students, some organizations do offer scholarships specifically targeting Hispanics but identifying these groups and programs has challenged parents, students, and high school counselors. Beginning the search may be difficult. Listed below are phone numbers, addresses, and contact names of a number of organizations, including the largest provider of Hispanic scholarships in the country, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF).
Prospective students should research all of the financial opportunities. That means not only checking with the financial aid offices of each school you are interested in attending but also checking with individual college departments for scholarship opportunities. Such departmental programs may not be known to the school's financial aid office. A good source for finding these awards are at a Minority Affairs Office of the college or university you attend.
Our list is a starting point. Keep digging, because where one scholarship program is identified, two or three may be hidden. Parents and students shouldn't forget to look into local and regional programs sponsored by national associations and corporations. Your local church may have a scholarship program particularly for its parish or religious community. The following is a list of private organizations that provide scholarships to Hispanics. This list is mainly for national or regional programs. Many schools have minority scholarship awards strictly for attendance at their own schools and aren't listed here. This list focuses on undergraduate programs. Hispanics interested in graduate program scholarships should inquire at some of the organizations listed below or consult the Internet web addresses listed at the end of this page.
