NEW MEXICO ALLIANCE FOR HISPANIC EDUCATION HOLDS 13th ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF ACHIEVEMENT LUNCHEON
Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 2007 - The New Mexico Alliance for Hispanic Education held its 13th Annual Celebration of Achievement Luncheon May 24th at the Sandia Resort & Casino. The event honored the HSF/New Mexico Alliance scholarship recipients, who were selected based upon their outstanding academic achievements and leadership potential.
Jeronimo Dominguez, Vice Provost of the University of New Mexico gave a moving keynote address about the importance of higher education. Edward Dobbs, President of the New Mexico Alliance for Hispanic Education and Alejandra Rincón, National Director of University Partnerships for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund also provided remarks. They were joined by four HSF scholarship recipients who spoke about their college ambitions and dreams of becoming future Latino leaders.
This year, the New Mexico Alliance for Hispanic Education contributed $100,000 to HSF to support Latino students in the state of New Mexico.
"New Mexico Alliance for Hispanic Education's continuing investment in HSF is reflective of the type of on-the-ground leadership we need to offer a consistent support system for our scholars," said Christopher E. Jones, HSF Chief Operating Officer. "The funds contributed by New Mexico Alliance will bring HSF one step closer to its mission of breaking the cycle of under-education in the Hispanic community."
The New Mexico Alliance for Hispanic Education is a nonprofit organization comprised of small business, corporations, individuals and foundations dedicated to providing educational opportunities for New Mexico's Hispanic students. The Alliance raises financial support for HSF through member participation in the annual golf tour.
This year's golf tour will kickoff on June 7th and will continue through June 9th at the "Taos Charity Golf Tournament" at Taos Country Club Sagebrush Inn & Conference Center. The festivities will continue at the Angel Fire Country Club on July 26th through June 28th with the "Angel Fire Invitational." The Alliance's final HSF benefit of the summer, "The Classic," will be held on August 28th at Las Campanas Golf Club in Santa Fe.
