THE HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND IS AWARDED HIGHEST RATING FOR SOUND FISCAL MANAGEMENT
SAN FRANCISCO, May 2006 - This month, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) was officially awarded a “4-star rating” by Charity Navigator for its excellent financial management practices. HSF has received a top rating from Charity Navigator for five consecutive years, since the time when Charity Navigator first took on the role of evaluating non-profit agencies for potential donors.
Charity Navigator is the nation’s leading independent evaluator of charitable organizations in America. They assist donors in making intelligent giving decisions by using objective criteria and data to evaluate the financial health of over five thousand different charitable organizations across the United States. Their website attracts more visitors than all other charity rating groups combined. Visitors to the site in 2005 donated three billion dollars to various charitable organizations.
In a letter from Trent Stamp, Executive Director of the Charity Navigator, he stated, “Hispanic Scholarship Fund outperforms most charities in America in its efforts to operate in the most fiscally responsible way possible.”
The “4-star rating” was awarded to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund to indicate that it exceeds industry standards and outperforms most other charities with comparable missions. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund scored well on organizational efficiency, indicating that fundraising expenses and administrative costs are low relative to the amount that HSF spends on programs and direct support to students. Charity Navigator also gave HSF high marks for developing a sustainable infrastructure.
According to Charity Navigator’s website, “charities that show consistent growth and maintain financial stability are more likely to last for years to come. They have the financial flexibility to plan strategically and pursue long-term objectives.” The “4-star rating” indicates that Charity Navigator is convinced that the Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s has the ability to continue to pursue its mission successfully in the years to come.
