Macy’s and its subsidiaries, which include Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury, specialize in selling clothing, footwear, accessories, bedding, furniture, beauty products, and housewares.
As part of its commitment to the communities it serves, Macy’s supports nonprofits that focus on arts and culture, education, HIV/AIDS, and issues surrounding women’s health and domestic violence. Associates of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s donate their time and money to the nonprofits of their choice, via Partners in Time, the company’s nationally recognized employee volunteer program, as well as by participating in the matching gifts program, United Way projects, the Earning for Learning initiative, and the company-wide campaign, Bag Hunger.
Bloomingdale associates also raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, through auctions, walks, and other events. And, Macy’s partners with local museums and theaters to provide children with free admission to exhibits, special musical performances, and art and theatre workshops.
The company has also launched a number of additional signature programs, including Believe, Go Red for Women, and Reading is Fundamental, among others. Each focuses on a key area of the company’s core giving initiatives. In the education sector, Macy’s funds scholarships, summer reading programs, mentoring and tutoring, and early childhood education.
Macy’s has been an HSF partner since 2002, providing scholarships that have helped students pay for tuition, books, and other education-related expenses. Most recently, the company was a Supporting Sponsor of HSF’s 2016 Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) in Chicago, a four-day, overnight, college empowerment conference for Latino high school juniors, selected through a competitive application process.
