HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND ANNOUNCES THE ELECTION OF LISA GARCIA QUIROZ AS THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

LOS ANGELES, January 25, 2016- The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest not-for-profit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, today announced the election of Lisa Garcia Quiroz, Senior Vice President, Time Warner Inc., and President, Time Warner Foundation, as the Chair of the Board of Directors. In addition, the Board also appointed Gene Camarena, President and CEO of La Raza Pizza, Inc., as Vice-Chair, Anthony Salcido, Vice President and Corporate Controller, Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. as Treasurer, and Margarita Flores, formerly Vice President, Community Affairs, Anheuser Busch, as Secretary.

In her current role at Time Warner, Ms. Garcia Quiroz ensures that Time Warner’s investments in people, community and content reflect a leading media company where the best talent thrives and advances, and its content resonates with increasingly diverse global audiences. She previously launched two businesses at Time Inc.: People en Español grew to become the best-selling Hispanic magazine in the United States and Time for Kids won numerous awards for its journalism and storytelling. During her many years of service on the HSF Board of Directors, Ms. Garcia Quiroz has championed access to higher education for Latino students and families across the country.

“I am honored to have been elected to lead such a distinguished Board of Directors,” said Ms. Garcia Quiroz. “As an HSF Alum, I know first-hand the difference that HSF makes in the lives of students and their families.  I’m looking forward to working with Fidel, the Board of Directors, and HSF staff to further our mission – to empower Latino families with the knowledge and resources to successfully complete a higher education while providing scholarships and support services to as many exceptional Hispanic American students as possible.”

“I’m thrilled about Lisa’s appointment. I admire and respect her immensely. She has been instrumental in the development of my career, beginning with my acceptance into Harvard,” said Fidel A. Vargas, President & CEO. “I’m looking forward to working closely with Lisa and the rest of the Board to fulfill our mission.”

Ms. Garcia Quiroz first met Mr. Vargas when she read his Harvard application as an admissions officer at Harvard College, and they’ve continued to work together throughout their careers.

She succeeds Jim McNamara, Founder and Chairman of Panamax Films, LLC as the new Chair.

“We are extremely grateful to Jim for the many years of dedicated service to HSF as Board Chair,” said Mr. Vargas. “His passion, wisdom and leadership have made HSF stronger, and we are honored that he continues to be an active member of our Board.”
