HSF AND CONSORTIUM PARTNERS TO HOLD THIRD ANNUAL COLLEGE PREP SATURDAY

Nov 22, 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA, November 22, 2019 – The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest nonprofit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, with the support of its longtime partner and Presenting Sponsor, Wells Fargo & Company (Wells Fargo), Leadership Sponsor, Loyola Marymount University (LMU), as well as members of the Youth Leadership Consortium, will present its third annual College Prep Saturday program, on November 23, from 9AM to 3PM, on the LMU campus in Los Angeles, California.

College Prep Saturday is a free, half-day program designed to provide middle school and high school students—and their parents—who are from historically under-represented socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, with the resources and knowledge to prepare, plan, and pay for college.

“Wells Fargo is proud to support the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the other members of the Youth Leadership Consortium, for this year’s College Prep Saturday,” said Walter Dolhare, Co-Head of Corporate & Investment Bank, President of Wells Fargo Securities, LLC, and Member of the HSF Board of Directors. “This will be a moment in these families’ lives when having access to the right information and resources, can change the course of what happens next. We are confident that College Prep Saturday is going to open doors!”

“We are looking forward to hosting College Prep Saturday for the third time! We have observed, firsthand, the major impact this program has on the students and parents who attend. The sessions’ practical, how-to approach, not only inform and empower them, but provide a roadmap that they would otherwise have to piece together for themselves,” said Fidel A. Vargas, President & CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. “Thanks to the continuing and generous support of Wells Fargo and Loyola Marymount University, we will once again have the opportunity to transform lives, through this sharing of knowledge and resources!”

On the day of the program, participating students are grouped by grade level, in sessions tailored to their academic needs, while parents or other family members meet, according to language preference. Breakout session topics include preparing for and applying to college, choosing the right college, writing a personal statement, researching financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and understanding the real cost of a college education.

College Prep Saturday is planned and executed by HSF, in partnership with members of the Youth Leadership Consortium (YLC)— a group of organizations including the American Indian College Fund, APIA Scholars, College Board, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Jack and Jill Foundation, College
Greenlight, and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, who share the goal of ensuring that the families collectively served by institutions of higher education are representative of the diversity of the US population.
