HSF KICKS OFF PROGRAM IN SIX CITIES TO HELP STUDENTS AND PARENTS PREPARE, PLAN, AND PAY FOR COLLEGE

Nov 13, 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA, November 13, 2019 – The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest nonprofit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, will launch its 2019-20, multi-city series of College 101 informational workshops for students and parents, with the support of National Presenting Sponsors, Wells Fargo & Company (Wells Fargo) and Toyota Motor North America (Toyota), starting Wednesday, November 13, at the Franklin High School campus in Portland, Oregon.

College 101 is a free, bilingual, two-hour program that provides valuable information to middle and high school students, and their parents, about how best to prepare, plan, and pay for college. The sessions, which are offered on weekday evenings in various cities across the country, address the steps necessary to plan for a college education, apply for scholarships, and research additional financial aid opportunities. Workshops in the current series will be held in five additional cities, including Memphis, Tennessee, on November 20, and Atlanta, Georgia, on December 5.

“We are thrilled to be able to kick off the 2019-20 College 101 series. We have observed, first-hand, the major impact this program has on the students and parents who attend. The workshop’s practical, how-to approach, not only informs and empowers them, but provides a roadmap that they would otherwise have to piece together for themselves,” said Fidel A. Vargas, President & CEO of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. “We are so grateful to our long-time partners, Wells Fargo and Toyota, for supporting our mission in so many ways, over the years, and for helping pave the way for this year’s College 101 series!"

Participants have the opportunity to interact with HSF Scholars, staff, Alumni, as well as other supporters, including business leaders, sponsors, and educators, from the local community.
