The Hispanic Scholarship Fund and Wells Fargo Empower Latino High School Juniors Through Leadership Conference Series

LOS ANGELES (June 28, 2016) The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest non-profit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, in partnership with National Presenting Sponsor Wells Fargo, is kicking off its summer calendar with its annual Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) – a series of four-day, overnight college-empowerment conferences for outstanding Latino high school juniors, slated for three cities across the U.S.

Each YLI conference will host 150 exceptional Latino high school juniors who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their schools and communities, through a competitive application process.  The conferences are designed to give these outstanding students the practical tools they need to successfully apply to top universities, have full access to scholarship and financial aid opportunities, and set a course for academic and career success, as well as continuing leadership, throughout their lives.

Attendees will enhance their leadership skills and begin to build professional networks by participating in college and career workshops, living on a college campus, and interacting with college students and professionals who serve as their mentors.

“We want to prepare the students for what it will be like on a college campus, help them start networking with like-minded students and professionals, and learn about lifelong leadership from adult leaders in the Hispanic community,” said Fidel A. Vargas, President & CEO, Hispanic Scholarship Fund. “With the continued support of our Groundbreaking Partner Wells Fargo, we are able to empower even more exceptional students, than ever, and nurture their leadership skills, so they can realize their full potential as leaders in their professions and communities when they enter the workforce.”

“Wells Fargo is a proud supporter of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and its Youth Leadership Institute, which makes higher education more available to students across the country,” said Georgette “Gigi” Dixon, Director of National Partnerships at Wells Fargo. “Our continued collaboration with HSF gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many young people by emphasizing the importance of education.”

The first YLI conference of the 2016 summer season launched on June 22-26 at the University of California, Irvine, with conferences to follow at the University of Pennsylvania, June 30-July 3, and The University of Chicago, July 28-31.
