THE HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND KICKS OFF COLLEGE CAMP SERIES WITH THE HELP OF WELLS FARGO

Oct 24, 2017

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 23, 2017 – The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest nonprofit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, will be kicking off its annual College Camp series of college information workshops, on October 28th at New York University– with five more to follow around the country.

College Camps are free, bilingual, half-day, college preparation workshops designed to help middle and high school students – and their parents – prepare, plan, and pay for college. This year, with the help of Wells Fargo, the College Camp workshops will take place in six cities nationwide: New York City, Houston, Phoenix, El Paso, Washington DC, and Miami.

“Wells Fargo is a proud supporter of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and its College Camp series, which makes higher education more available to students across the country,” said Georgette “Gigi” Dixon, Director of National Partnerships, Wells Fargo. “Our continued collaboration with HSF gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many young people and families by emphasizing the importance of education.”

College Camp workshops are led by local business and community leaders and HSF staff members, who provide guidance on topics like preparing for and applying to college, choosing a college that's the right fit, writing a personal statement, researching financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and understanding the real cost of a college education. The program also includes materials prepared by college admissions professionals that provide an inside perspective on applying to and attending college.

"In addition to awarding scholarships, HSF provides critical resources, support services, and information to students and parents on what it takes to prepare for a college track," said Fidel A. Vargas, President & CEO, Hispanic Scholarship Fund. "College Camps give them the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and interact with a variety of experts, in a range of relevant fields, all in a single location, in a collegiate setting. We are excited to continue our partnership with Wells Fargo through this College Camp Series."
