Yvonne Garcia was born in Queens, New York, to a Lebanese mother and a Dominican father, who came to the US to pursue a better life. Her parents worked multiple jobs to raise their three children.

“My parents really reinforced the importance of being bilingual and appreciating our language, culture, and traditions at home. It was equally important to be able to enter and adapt to different environments while bringing my whole self to the table,” she told Color Magazine.

From an early age, she was interested in the concept of money, according to Latinas in Business. As a child, she held a book sale on the sidewalk, sticking stamps onto papers that she pretended were bank transactions. She also charged her brothers interest when they borrowed money.

Higher education became her doorway to global finance. She earned a bachelor’s degree in International Business from State University of New York at Albany and completed the Army ROTC program at Siena College in Loudonville, New York. She then earned a certificate in Economics and Culture at Sorbonne University in Paris, France, followed by an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Boston University.

She began her career at a small community bank, moved to Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor, and then became the vice president for Bank of America’s China Construction Bank program, through which she opened more than 80 wealth management centers across China and earned a Six Sigma Black Belt in the process. She went on to the role of vice president and director of marketing at Liberty Mutual’s Agency Corporation, developing and deploying integrated marketing strategies and the company’s Hispanic marketing initiative.

Today, Yvonne is chief of staff to the CEO at State Street Corporation, a Fortune 500 financial services and bank holding company—one of the largest in the world. She previously served as the senior vice president and global head of the Client Solutions Group and Project Management at the company, developing and delivering solutions for Fortune 100 clients in the financial sector.

Outside of work, she is dedicated to the Latino community and is an advocate for women and children. Yvonne is the chair of HSF’s Boston Advisory Council and serves on the Latino Advisory Council of Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, of which she is a founding member. The Latino Advisory Council leads Milagros para Niños (Miracles for Children) at the Boston Children’s Hospital, which has raised more than $8 million for Hispanic children unable to afford medical care.

In 2017, she was appointed by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker to serve on the-newly-formed Latino Advisory Commission. She is the chair of The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Women’s Network Advisory Board and also serves on the board of The Partnership, Inc., an organization that seeks to empower professionals from diverse backgrounds. She previously served as the board chair of ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America). She was also a member of former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick’s Latino-American Advisory Commission Board.

In both 2017 and 2018, she was featured in Fortune Magazine as one of the 50 most powerful Latinas in business.
