The Marathon Oil Corporation, a global energy company based in Houston, Texas, has been an HSF partner since 2006. The company’s activities span North America, Europe, and Africa,
through three operating segments, each organized and managed based primarily on geographic location and the nature of the products and services it offers.
In North America, the company explores for, produces, and markets crude oil and condensate, natural gas liquids, and natural gas. Outside of North America, it explores for, produces, and markets liquid hydrocarbons, and natural gas. The company also produces and markets products manufactured from natural gas, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), and methanol in Equatorial Guinea. It also mines, extracts, and transports bitumen from oil sands deposits in Alberta, Canada, and upgrades the bitumen to produce and market synthetic crude oil and vacuum gas oil.
The company expresses its commitment to the core values of health and safety, environmental stewardship, openness and honesty, community partnerships, and being results-focused.
As part of its commitment to the communities it serves, Marathon Oil supports organizations that promote health awareness, environmental stewardship, and arts and culture. Its partnerships include a collaboration with the American Heart Association to support the latter’s mission of building healthier lives free from cardiovascular disease and stroke, a partnership with Trees for Houston to build trees and educate the Houston community on environmental awareness, and a joint effort with Alley Theatre to enhance English, writing, literature, social studies, the humanities, and fine arts curriculum through theatre.
The company also supports education at all grade levels, with an emphasis on increasing interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields of study for primary and secondary school students.
Through its partnership with HSF, Marathon Oil has provided funding for scholarships and scholar support services. Scholarships have provided critical financial support to students, helping them pay for tuition, books, and other education-related expenses. HSF Scholars have also benefited from the opportunity to participate in summer internships at various Marathon Oil locations, where each is paired with an employee who serves as a professional mentor.
In addition to its commitment to HSF, Marathon Oil also partners with organizations like the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and the Hispanic Alliance for Career Advancement, in order to further extend its support of Hispanic communities across the U.S.
