Eduardo Favio Angeles was born and raised in Miraflores—a district of the Lima province in Peru. An only child, he was raised by his mother, who, as a single parent, worked as a computer programmer in Peru, during the “punched card” era of computers. After Favio graduated from the Catholic School of Saint Augustine, they both migrated to Los Angeles, California.

Once in Los Angeles, his mother became a dress maker, and he continued his secondary education for two additional years, at Alexander Hamilton High School, where he completed the humanities magnet program with honors. He then attended Santa Monica College, and subsequently transferred to California State University, Northridge, where he took classes toward his BS in Computer Science.

During that time, he went to work for Universal Studios Parks and Resorts in Hollywood, where he started as a computer technician, and went on to become one of the theme park’s systems administrators, participating in the migration of their systems from MS-DOS to Windows 98, and from token ring to ethernet.

He also worked with the task force that developed Universal’s first theme park operations data warehouse, and managed hundreds of databases across multiple data centers. While at Universal, he received increasingly advanced IT opportunities and Microsoft training, which led him to pursue certifications in databases and programming at UCLA’s extension program.

He notes that this progression has continued throughout his career—as he learned and applied various software skills, new opportunities kept emerging, leading him to pursue even more training, which then led to further opportunities. “There is no limit to what you can achieve if you keep on learning,” he says, adding, “My thirst for knowledge is unquenchable, and that has helped me grow as a human being and as a professional.”

The next step in his career’s trajectory, was a role as a software developer and report writer for Multi-Regional Multiple Listing Services (MRMLS). After his first year, he was promoted to senior developer due to his successful contributions to the launch of a digital real estate platform, which transformed the business into a fully digitized organization. He says one of his most treasured contributions to the organization was a semi-intelligent schema mapper and auto ETL generator, which empowered MRMLS to quickly set up data exchanges with other MLS organizations, and allowed the company to become one of the largest MLS in the nation.

Searching for his next challenge, he transitioned to the retail and international wholesale industry, joining Dutch LLC as a senior developer. He was later promoted to Software Developer Manager and Database Administrator, and then again to DevOps Solutions Architect. At Dutch LLC, he led a team of technology professionals through multiple system implementations and migrations, built a company-wide data warehouse, and advanced analytic dashboards.

Today, he is the Senior Vice President of Solutions Architecture at HSF, and comments that he sees this role as yet another opportunity to leverage his skills and continue to grow. “It will take me, once again, out of my comfort zone,” he explains, “and provide me with a new challenge and an opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge.” He adds that he is also pleased to be part of a “team of dedicated individuals who want to help students achieve a higher education.”

For the future, Favio’s vision coincides with that of HSF’s. “Education is one of the most important elements that will make our country succeed,” he says. “It will provide us with the knowledge needed to begin professional careers and fulfill our civic duties.”
