Tuan Tran, the eldest of three siblings, was born in Thailand, to Vietnamese parents who emphasized the importance of attaining a college degree, from the time he was young. He adds that “encouragement and support from family and friends” were instrumental in helping him succeed.
He graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems, and recalls that his time in college provided him with the opportunity to explore IT development, software, and programming—fields with which he has “always been fascinated.” The experience and skills he gained as an undergrad, allowed him to launch a career in the in-demand field of information technology.
Prior to his time at HSF, he accrued over ten years’ experience working in IT as a developer, including a six-year stint with the retail company, Dutch, and prior to that, a job with one of the largest real estate listing services in California.
Today, Tuan is a member of HSF’s Solutions Architecture team, where he serves as a senior business analyst, and is tasked with translating business requirements into system solutions and designing new processes to improve workflows and address the organization’s business needs. He says he was first introduced to HSF by a close friend, and was drawn to the organization’s mission and the opportunities it provides students to thrive and give back to their communities.
Reflecting on his own experience, he encourages others to pursue higher education, as he did, because “college provides the skills and knowledge to succeed, as well as the opportunity to expand one’s network and develop lifelong friendships.”
