HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND KICKS OFF 2019/20 COLLEGE CAMPS WITH HELP OF LONGTIME PARTNER WELLS FARGO

Oct 07, 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 24, 2019 – The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest nonprofit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, will kick off its 2019/20 series of College Camp informational workshops for students and families, with the support of its longtime partner and series sponsor, Wells Fargo & Company (Wells Fargo), in six cities, across the nation, starting Saturday, September 28, 2019, on New York University’s Manhattan campus.

College Camp is a free, bilingual, half-day, college preparation program designed to help middle and high school students and family members, prepare, plan, and pay for college. Topics include navigating the college application process, choosing a college that's the right fit, writing a personal statement, and researching financial aid and scholarship opportunities.

“Wells Fargo is proud to support the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and a new College Camp series,” said Walter Dolhare, Co-Head of Corporate & Investment Bank, President of Wells Fargo Securities, LLC, and Member of the HSF Board of Directors.  “The College Camp concept demystifies the college track for students and their family members, by delivering vital information that they would otherwise have to piece together for themselves.”

"Not only is Wells Fargo helping us reach thousands of students and families in so many locations, giving them an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and interact with a variety of experts on a range of invaluable topics, but for many families, this is an introduction to HSF. The students who attend College Camp are highly likely to become some of the 10,000+ students each year who qualify to be HSF Scholars. And the support services our Scholars receive will benefit them throughout college, help them make a successful transition to a career, achieve their full potential in life, and be in a position to give back to the community,” said Fidel A. Vargas, President & CEO, Hispanic Scholarship Fund. “We are grateful to long-time partner Wells Fargo, for supporting the mission and vision of HSF."

Participating students are grouped by grade level, in sessions tailored to their needs, while parents or other family members meet, according to language preference—Spanish or English. All participants have the opportunity to interact with HSF Scholars, Alumni, staff, and other supporters from local communities, who include business leaders and educators.

Since 2003, Wells Fargo has committed over $24 million to HSF. Over the lifetime of the Wells Fargo-HSF Partnership, the company has supported more than 2,900 Scholars with scholarship funding exceeding $8 million, also donating $15 million for support services for students, and parents, as well as HSF Scholars and Alumni, across the nation.
