THE HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND AND WELLS FARGO PARTNER FOR 2019 YOUTH LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE PROGRAMS

Jul 22, 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 22, 2019 The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest nonprofit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, in partnership with Wells Fargo & Company (Wells Fargo), has convened the country’s top Latino, rising high school seniors, for HSF’s 2019 Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) college empowerment program. With Wells Fargo as the National Presenting Sponsor, HSF hosted the first of two YLI’s for the year, at The University of Chicago from June 19-23, and will host a second YLI at the University of Southern California, from July 24-28.

Each YLI hosts 200 exceptional, Latino, rising high school seniors who have distinguished themselves as leaders in their schools and communities, and have earned their seats at the program, through a competitive application process involving nearly 2,000 student applicants.

“Wells Fargo is proud  of this collaboration with HSF, which helps promising Latino students gain access to the tools and information they need to make informed choices about attending college, and to be successful once they get there, “ said Walter Dolhare, Managing Director and Co-President, Wells Fargo Securities, LLC, and Member of HSF Board of Directors. “This continued partnership with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many young people, and continue to emphasize the importance of education.”

The programs are designed to give students the practical tools they need to successfully apply to top universities, have full access to scholarship and financial aid opportunities, set a course for academic and career success, and experience what it’s like to live on a college campus.

Through college and career workshops, and numerous opportunities over the four-day program to network with their peers, HSF Scholar mentors and Alumni, and other professionals from diverse fields who also serve as mentors, attendees will be able to enhance their leadership skills and start building their own professional networks.

“We want to do everything we can to prepare these outstanding, rising high school seniors for a college track and a lifetime of leadership, and who better to guide them, than role models from the Hispanic community—our Alumni and other exceptional professionals who have already forged the path—or are well on their way, as is the case with our HSF Scholars and younger Alumni,” said Fidel A. Vargas, President & CEO, Hispanic Scholarship Fund. “Thanks to the continuing and generous support of Wells Fargo, we are able to empower yet another cohort of exceptional high school students.”

Since 2003, Wells Fargo has committed over $24 million to HSF and, over the lifetime of the Wells Fargo-HSF Partnership, Wells Fargo has supported over 2,900 Scholars, awarding more than $8 million in scholarships, and has donated $15 million for support services for students, parents, HSF Scholars, and Alumni, across the nation.
