THE HISPANIC SCHOLARSHIP FUND HOLDS COLLEGE CAMP SERIES WITH HELP FROM WELLS FARGO

Nov 01, 2016

LOS ANGELES (November 2, 2016) The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s largest nonprofit organization supporting Hispanic American higher education, in partnership with National Presenting Sponsor, Wells Fargo, kicked off its fall College Camp series of free, bilingual college information workshops on October 1, at Arizona State University.

The 2016-2017 College Camps are slated for six cities across the U.S.:  Phoenix, New York, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, and Los Angeles.  The half-day workshops are designed to help middle and high school students – and their parents – prepare, plan, and pay for college.

“Wells Fargo is a proud supporter of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and its College Camp series, which makes higher education more available to students across the country,” said Georgette “Gigi” Dixon, Director of National Partnerships, Wells Fargo. “Our continued collaboration with HSF gives us the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of so many young people and families by emphasizing the importance of education.”

College Camp workshops are led by local business and community leaders and HSF staff members, who provide guidance on topics like preparing for and applying to college, choosing a college that's the right fit, writing a personal statement, researching financial aid and scholarship opportunities, and understanding the real cost of a college education. The program also includes materials prepared by college admissions professionals that provide an inside perspective on applying to and attending college.

"In addition to awarding scholarships, HSF provides critical resources, support services, and information to students and parents on what it takes to prepare for a college track," said Fidel A. Vargas, President & CEO, Hispanic Scholarship Fund. "College Camps give them the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and interact with a variety of experts, in a range of relevant fields, all in a single location, in a collegiate setting."
